Sustainability

Books made with respect for the land they came from

The same care goes into every book and into the place it came from. We measure our impact, publish it openly, and lighten it year after year.

Our commitment

Sustainability isn’t a chapter, it is how we print

Reducing our impact sits inside the business strategy, not next to it. Every figure on this page is measured, audited and published once a year in our Environmental, Ethics and Safety Report.

The environmentCertified paper, our own solar plant, waste back into the cycle, emissions measured book by book.
The peopleOne hundred and fifty people, their safety and their training, checked by an independent auditor.
The communityA plant that belongs to its valley, and a supply chain kept as short and as transparent as we can.
Conscious choices in production

Every stage of the process is a decision about impact

From the paper we buy to the way we power the presses and handle what is left over, we look for the lower-impact option at each step, then measure whether it worked.

01

Our own solar plant

A 2,030 m² photovoltaic installation on our roofs covers around 30% of the electricity we use, and the surplus goes back to the grid. The 2022–2023 upgrade raised output measurably.

~400,000 kg CO2 avoided per year
02

Certified paper sourcing

Sustainable purchasing policies guide every paper decision. The share of non-certified paper has fallen from 58% in 2016 to 15% in 2025, verified through FSC and PEFC chain of custody.

84.53% certified in 2025
03

Waste back into the cycle

All waste is recorded and separated at source. Paper returns to the chain to become paper again, while hazardous streams are handled by specialised partners.

97% of 682,268 kg recovered
04

Every roof put to work

All the roof space available on our buildings is used for renewable energy production.

100% of available roof space
05

Lower energy consumption

LED lighting, heat pumps for heating and cooling, and continuous work on production waste have brought electricity use down from 2.33 GWh in 2021.

1,722,723 kWh in 2025
06

Less chemistry in the process

Process free plates and a cleaner printing workflow have cut the chemicals we use, and the chemical waste we produce.

People and safety

Our people are the backbone of every book

One hundred and fifty people make Printer Trento. We invest in their safety, training and professional growth, and we let a third party check that we are doing it properly.

Since 2022 we have voluntarily submitted to biennial SMETA 2-Pillar audits covering labour rights, health and safety. Reports are published on Sedex, EcoVadis and the Book Chain Project.

Our commitment to the climate

Measure first, reduce, then compensate

Operating at the foot of the Dolomites, we have been measuring our CO2 emissions since 2020 and actively work to reduce them through ongoing sustainability initiatives.

Our sustainability report

Transparency is the only way to prove progress

We publish our environmental, ethical and safety figures openly, so that publishers, institutions and anyone else can read them without asking. Every number on this page comes from that report.

The available report describes our environmental, ethical, health and safety commitments.
